The Concept
The Lagos State Government in its attempt to modernise and regulate the commercial transportation within
the Lagos metropolis has licensed Basscomm Nigeria Limited to operate a technology driven new Lagos
Taxi service. This strategy by Lagos is a complementing plan to the already running initiatives like the BRT
and the planned Light Rail Systems (LRS) and the Ferry Services. The proposed new Lagos Taxi service
would comprise of brand new cars with meters for fare displays and will convey passengers from one point
to another within Lagos.
Basscomm Taxi as a licensee of the new Lagos Taxi Initiative will as part of its strategic plan roll out 2000
brand new air-conditioned cars as Taxis under the Basscomm Taxi programme (BTP). The taxis will be
automatically dispatched through the technology/call centre where patrons and passengers will call for Taxi
and the nearest Taxi using the GPS/Dispatch technology will be sent to them. The service aims at a
maximum of 15minutes turnaround time from the moment the calls are made to the time the Taxis will
arrive. The taxi drivers will be appropriately kitted in clean uniforms and will be courteous and will have the
benefit of being directed through the integrated mapping platform that has been put together by Basscomm
in conjunction with our partners.
As our own way of also empowering Nigerians, Basscomm in Collaboration with New Nigeria Club has
created an investment scheme that allows interested individuals to partake in the project through the creation
of TransCoOp™ Scheme under the Basscomm Taxi project platform. Through the TransCoOp™ scheme,
members of the public are invited to own their own taxis under the Basscomm Taxi Programme (BTP) who
is the operator of the Taxi project. To this end, a pool of 200 Taxis/Month have been provided for within the
planned fleet for NNC Members.
The Service
The service will use brand new, full air conditioned and comprehensively insured cars with Taxi meters for
fare calculation, e-payment, tracking and other security devices. The TransCoOp™ scheme will offer the
following to the participants:
• Regular Annual or Bi-annual Income
Under the Scheme, every Taxi owner will earn a minimum income bi-annually or annually
• Lease arrangement with Select Banks
We have arranged lease facilities with a number of banks that the prospecting participants can take
advantage of
• Transfer of FULL ownership
Full ownership of the taxis will be transferred to the participants at the expiration of the lease arrangement
with the operator of the scheme
